Fibromyalgia?

Tuesday, December 14th, 2010

Many times people have all the symptoms of fibromyalgia but still may not have fibromyalgia.  Read this clinical case history from one of our many patients and decide for yourself whether or not they had fibromyalgia?

“First of all, I must admit I was skeptical about going to a chiropractor.  A year of deep muscle massages every 10 days, plus another 6 weeks of physical therapy, two to three times per week had given me very little relief.  A friend at work suggested I try a chiropractor.  A couple of weeks after that, I saw Dr. V’s infomercial and decided to come in.  In less than three weeks of treatment, I’m feeling much, much better.  The pain in my neck, shoulders, spine, hips, and tailbone was constant with occasional intense muscle spasms that were excruciating.  I was so weak and fatigued all the time, and I couldn’t work a full day. Now, I am virtually pain free.  I still have a bit of morning stiffness, but it passes.  My posture is better and I feel more alert and less tired.”                                                                               – Harold A.

Oddly enough, even though he had many symptoms associated with fibromyalgia:

Muscle pain,

Overall body aches,

Fatigue

Weakness,

Insomnia, etc.

He did not have fibromyalgia.  His examination did not reveal the discrete tender points in enough places to warrant that particular diagnosis.

If you wonder if you’ve been diagnosed correctly, or are receiving proper care, call our center now, (303) 394-CARE (2273).  If you mention this article, you will receive a FREE examination without obligation.

Facial Pain

Care ChiropracticProblems with the jaw are common in people with fibromyalgia.  Clenching the jaw during disrupted sleep or even during the day can contribute to a painful condition called temporomandibular joint syndrome, (TMJ).

The jaw joint even if it’s slightly out of alignment, can cause headaches, ringing in the ears, facial pain, and even lead to pain in the upper shoulder area.  People with this condition often experience clicking or popping of the jaw joint.

The jaw of course moves by rocking on a joint just ahead of the ear.  Even a slight misalignment of this joint can cause terrific pain due to the sensitivity of this important structure.

At our center we use a hand held instrument to gently realign the jaw joint.  Our patients are frequently amazed how much relief they can have with just a gentle “click” of the instrument.

If you have facial pain associated with fibromyalgia, call our center now, (303) 394-CARE (2273).  We will examine your jaw, it’s alignment and the muscles that surround and move the jaw at no charge, when you mention this article.

Can Kids Have Fibromyalgia?

Tuesday, October 26th, 2010
Denver Chiropractor

Fibromyalgia is not just an adult disorder.  Yes, children can have it too and there is strong evidence that fibromyalgia may be hereditary, (it runs in families).

An Israeli study published in the “Journal of Rheumatology” in 1993 reported that 6.2 percent of a group of 338 healthy school children met the criteria for fibromyalgia.

Often time’s doctors and families will discount a child’s pain with statements like, “oh he just wants attention” or “she’s just suffering growing pains.”  Unfortunately, the child’s pain can be very real.  The underlying problem goes unrecognized and the child suffers needlessly.

Don’t let this happen to your family!  Without care their problems can get worse.  With proper care they could feel great.  Call now, (303) 394-CARE (2273).  The exam is FREE when you mention this article.

“I have been a patient of Dr. V. for two weeks.  I came to him with chronic muscle and skeletal pain due to arthritis and fibromyalgia.  I suffered extreme headaches, leg, neck, back, hip, and foot pain. Now, I am feeling great relief.  Occasionally this pain reoccurs and I head in for a visit and feel better.  Dr. V. is a great humanitarian!”                                                                                       Sally G.

Chiropractic and Fibromyalgia

Monday, August 23rd, 2010

While Fibromyalgia may be a complex disorder without a cure, the Denver Fibromyalgia Health Center at Care Chiropractic has helped many patients by reducing the symptoms and improving their quality of life.

Even though healers and then medical professionals have been treating this malady since the seventeenth century, the American Medical Association (AMA) did not recognize it as a diagnosis until 1987. There is still debate today about the validity of the disorder by some conventional physicians because there is no test that pinpoints or diagnoses the disorder. However, it only takes being in the presence of one sufferer for a short period of time to see the reality.

The latest research shows, Fibromyalgia is rooted in the central nervous system. Documentation has shown that patients with this disorder have abnormalities in the chemical compounds (neurotransmitters) that transmit nerve impulses. There is also evidence of considerably more nerve growth, than in those without it. This indicates interference with the nervous system and hypersensitivity. The whole principle of chiropractic care revolves around the idea that a patient’s health is controlled by the state of their nervous system. Dr. Visentin D.C., who is an expert in this area, is especially equipped to help patients reduce their symptoms and find a better way of life.

Chiropractors as Diagnosticians

Fibromyalgia sufferers go an average of five years before getting a correct diagnosis with conventional medicine. More than half of these patients receive a misdiagnosis that could lead to needless invasive treatment such as surgery. Many patients find the necessary relief from chiropractic care because the symptoms affect the entire body and doctors of chiropractic take a holistic approach.

This disorder affects each patient differently, so communication is the key to diagnosing the needs of each individual. During the initial consultation, Dr. Visentin D.C. goes over a patient’s health history and performs a physical assessment. The assessment will include an evaluation of spinal alignment and a test of 18 specific tender points. These points will generally not hurt on a healthy person unless enough pressure is applied to make the base of the assessor’s thumbnail turn white. Fibromyalgia patients will feel pain when much less pressure is applied. .

Fibromyalgia Care

At the Denver Fibromyalgia Health Center, Dr. Visentin D.C. uses additional tests to adjust a patient’s neck and spine. Once the spine is back in alignment, the pain symptoms felt by the patient anywhere in the body usually diminish or disappear entirely. If the pain can be alleviated, other symptoms such as trouble sleeping, fatigue, and depression tend to also go away. Changes in diet, lifestyle, and sleep hygiene may also be suggested to improve the patient’s overall health.

The Denver Fibromyalgia Health Center and Dr. Visentin D.C have helped many patients by reducing symptoms and improving their quality of life using chiropractic care. If you have questions or would like an examination, call (303) 394-CARE (2273).
