Do You Have Fibromyalgia?
Wednesday, July 7th, 2010There are 18 potentially tender points important for the diagnosis of fibromyalgia. To get a diagnosis of fibromyalgia, 11 of 18 tender point sites must be painful when pressed. Reference: www.webMD.com
The diagnostic points are paired locations, one potentially tender point on each side of the body. Check for tenderness at the locations listed below:
¡ The base of the skull, directly below the hairline
¡ Above the shoulder blades, near where the neck and shoulder join
¡ Between the shoulder blades
¡ On the front of the neck, above the collar bone
¡ On the chest at the second and third costochondral junction (second rib)
¡ Below the elbows
¡ In the lower back, right below the waist
¡ On the hips, right under the hip bones
¡ Behind the knees
If 11, of the 18 possible points are tender, you may have fibromyalgia. If you would like a more thorough examination, call (303) 394-CARE (2273).
