Fibromyalgia?

Tuesday, December 14th, 2010

Many times people have all the symptoms of fibromyalgia but still may not have fibromyalgia.  Read this clinical case history from one of our many patients and decide for yourself whether or not they had fibromyalgia?

“First of all, I must admit I was skeptical about going to a chiropractor.  A year of deep muscle massages every 10 days, plus another 6 weeks of physical therapy, two to three times per week had given me very little relief.  A friend at work suggested I try a chiropractor.  A couple of weeks after that, I saw Dr. V’s infomercial and decided to come in.  In less than three weeks of treatment, I’m feeling much, much better.  The pain in my neck, shoulders, spine, hips, and tailbone was constant with occasional intense muscle spasms that were excruciating.  I was so weak and fatigued all the time, and I couldn’t work a full day. Now, I am virtually pain free.  I still have a bit of morning stiffness, but it passes.  My posture is better and I feel more alert and less tired.”                                                                               – Harold A.

Oddly enough, even though he had many symptoms associated with fibromyalgia:

Muscle pain,

Overall body aches,

Fatigue

Weakness,

Insomnia, etc.

He did not have fibromyalgia.  His examination did not reveal the discrete tender points in enough places to warrant that particular diagnosis.

Facial Pain

Care ChiropracticProblems with the jaw are common in people with fibromyalgia.  Clenching the jaw during disrupted sleep or even during the day can contribute to a painful condition called temporomandibular joint syndrome, (TMJ).

The jaw joint even if it’s slightly out of alignment, can cause headaches, ringing in the ears, facial pain, and even lead to pain in the upper shoulder area.  People with this condition often experience clicking or popping of the jaw joint.

The jaw of course moves by rocking on a joint just ahead of the ear.  Even a slight misalignment of this joint can cause terrific pain due to the sensitivity of this important structure.

At our center we use a hand held instrument to gently realign the jaw joint.  Our patients are frequently amazed how much relief they can have with just a gentle “click” of the instrument.

If you have facial pain associated with fibromyalgia, call our center now, (303) 394-CARE (2273).  We will examine your jaw, it’s alignment and the muscles that surround and move the jaw at no charge, when you mention this article.

Can Kids Have Fibromyalgia?

Fibromyalgia is not just an adult disorder.  Yes, children can have it too and there is strong evidence that fibromyalgia may be hereditary, (it runs in families).

An Israeli study published in the “Journal of Rheumatology” in 1993 reported that 6.2 percent of a group of 338 healthy school children met the criteria for fibromyalgia.

Often time’s doctors and families will discount a child’s pain with statements like, “oh he just wants attention” or “she’s just suffering growing pains.”  Unfortunately, the child’s pain can be very real.  The underlying problem goes unrecognized and the child suffers needlessly.

Don’t let this happen to your family!  Without care their problems can get worse.  With proper care they could feel great.  Call now, (303) 394-CARE (2273).  The exam is FREE when you mention this article.

No More Fibromyalgia

Monday, October 11th, 2010

Fibromyalgia is a condition with no known cause or cure.  Patients at our clinic notice incredible results with the gentle care we provide.  Here is another real world testimonial.

“I have been a patient of Dr. V. for two weeks.  I came to him with chronic muscle and skeletal pain due to arthritis and fibromyalgia.  I suffered extreme headaches, leg, neck, back, hip, and foot pain. Now, I am feeling great relief.  Occasionally this pain reoccurs and I head in for a visit and feel better.  Dr. V. is a great humanitarian!”                                                                                       Sally G.

Will your results be like Sally’s?  You’ll never know unless you call (303) 394-CARE (2273). Mention this article for a FREE examination without obligation.

Do You Have Fibromyalgia?

Wednesday, July 7th, 2010

There are 18 potentially tender points important for the diagnosis of fibromyalgia.  To get a diagnosis of fibromyalgia, 11 of 18 tender point sites must be painful when pressed. Reference: www.webMD.com

The diagnostic points are paired locations, one potentially tender point on each side of the body.  Check for tenderness at the locations listed below:

¡       The base of the skull, directly below the hairline

¡       Above the shoulder blades, near where the neck and shoulder join

¡       Between the shoulder blades

¡       On the front of the neck, above the collar bone

¡       On the chest at the second and third costochondral junction (second rib)

¡       Below the elbows

¡       In the lower back, right below the waist

¡       On the hips, right under the hip bones

¡       Behind the knees

If 11, of the 18 possible points are tender, you may have fibromyalgia.  If you would like a more thorough examination, call (303) 394-CARE (2273).
